Digesting Your Superfoods

Proper and efficient digestion of the foods we eat is one of the first steps toward optimal health and what we call "superhealth."

If you are not breaking down and sorting out the nutrients and energy from a healthy superfood-rich diet, you are not getting their benefits.

"You are what you digest and absorb", not just "what you eat."

In other words, our health is directly related to how well we take in nutrients, not necessarily just the food we put into our mouth.

If you wish to achieve higher states of health, via dietary practices, it is very important that your digestive track is on “track”, allowing for the maximum transfer of life-force from the foods you eat.

(The following recommendations are for those already eating a diet free (for the most part) of extremely refined and processed foods, fast-foods, and junk foods.)

Top 8 Ways to Improve Digestion

These are our top 8 ways that we’ve found most useful for eliminating digestive issues like heartburn, constipation, indigestion, flatulence and more.

1) Blend your Foods - Stop eating solid food for a day or two and blend your foods, making smoothies, soups and shakes.

2) Juice Fast - Take a break from food altogether and do a juice fast, also adding in cleansing and nutritive herbal teas. This is a good thing to do for a few days in a row or even just half a day or 24 hour period.

3) Eat Fermented Foods – This includes foods like sauerkraut, kefir and miso that are high in enzymes that will help to break down your food into usable nutrients. These foods are also high in friendly mico-flora, excellent for colon health.

4) Eat Foods High in Fiber – This includes raw fruit and vegetables that can be blended, eaten as a salad or raw entree.

5) Top Superfoods for DigestionAloe vera gel and chia seeds are our top two favorite superfoods to help sooth and restore digestive flow. Read more about them on our website pages.

6) Drink Plenty of Water - Drinking water with lemon in the morning helps to “move things through." Lemon is also very cleansing to the liver.

7) Take an Enema – Enemas are very helpful at relieving constipation and stagnation. You can use warm water or make nutritive tea blends using nettle, chamomile and others.

8) Follow Food Combining Essentials: (Foods that are good combinations)

  • Fruit----Leafy Greens or chlorophyll rich foods
  • Protein----Non-starchy vegetables and seaweeds
  • Fats----Non-starchy vegetables and seaweeds
  • Starchy vegetables----Non-starchy vegetables, fats, and seaweeds
  • Grains----seaweeds, fats, non-starchy vegetables

Digestive Health Supplements

Digestive Enhancement Enzymes - Healthforce Nutritionals

These Digestive Enhancement Enzymes significantly increase the absorption, assimilation, and utilization of food and other supplements taken with them.

Most people suffer from the lack of sufficient metabolic enzymes. This condition prevents full nutrient intake from the foods we eat. In addition, it causes your food to be only partially digested, leading to excess waste accumulation and toxic effects in the body.

Primal Defense Probiotic Supplement - Garden of Life

A couple times of year it is beneficial take a bottle of probiotic supplement to help restore body ecology in the colon and digestive organs. These are tiny micro flora organisms that, with the help and innovation of science, can be captured in powdered form.

Primal Defense is an excellent brand of soil based organisms that is, in our opinion, one of the highest qualities available.

They are easily absorbed into the body and digestive tract, proliferating into the billions and balancing pH levels.
